Attorney J. Michael Shea serves as Of Counsel at the Four Rivers Law Firm in Tampa, Florida.
J. Michael Shea, a trial lawyer of thirty years, is a practicing attorney, author, and law professor in Tampa, Florida. He argued before the United States Supreme Court the Argersinger v. Hamlin case, one of the cases that set in place the "right to counsel" for indigents charged with a crime.
Mike is also the founder and Executive Director of St. Michael's Legal Clinic. SMLC started as a small teaching project to assist paralegal students in obtaining hands on experience while assisting women and families in their effort to collect child support. As the needs of the poor became more evident, SMLC expanded the type of cases to include family law, immigration, foreclosure defense, property matters, debtors’ rights, and bankruptcy.
Outside of his legal work Mike is a father, husband, and a sailor. Mike holds masters (captain) and harbor pilot licenses issues by the United States Coast Guard. In his freetime Mike enjoys swimming at his home in Tampa Bay, Florida. Mike is a Shriner and rides a Harley for that organization
